Double shut off couplings and plugs

Has anyone ever tried these instead of the huge ball valves on you h.p. gun lines?

I have found the ball valves to be extremely heavy and hard to close.

The double shut offs are little lighter and immediately stop flow.
You uncouple and hook up to your surface cleaner or vice versa.

Going to try a set. That five pound ball vale has to go!

air line type fittings with 200lbs air pressure are hard to get apart. 3000 lbs of water pressure would prob be impossable unless you shut off the flow. I could be wrong.

Ron,
I know what you mean on the air lines.

These fittings are designed for in industrial applications.

The plug is rated at 4,000 psi and the coupling is rated at 1,000 psi. Both are 3/8" size.

I put the coupler on the gun and the plug on the whip hose.

Will try them out this evening.

I HAVE BEEN USING THIS TYPE PLUG FOR YEARS WITH NO PROBS.
A.SPEC SELLS THEM. I GET THEM FROM LOCAL HYDRALLIC STORE IT'S THE WAY TO GO NO QUESTION.YOU MUST USE BRASS.THEY ARE NOT AIR FITTINGS! I HAVE MENTIONED THIS BEFORE BUT NO ONE PICKED UP ON IT.

Doug,
Thanks for the input. The ones I have are solid brass and are not even close to being air fittings.

It got to home too late to try them last night. Sure ought to be a weight savings over that huge heavy ball valve.

ONE MORE THING I FORGOT......PUT A PIPE NIPPLE( 1-2INCH LONG) IN AN EXTRA MALE PLUG.THIS MAKES IT EASIER TO REMOVE THE PLUG, WHEN YOU ARE READY TO SHUT DOWN AFTER THE JOB INSTALL THE PLUG INTO THE FEMALE SHUT OFF QUICK CONNECT, YOU CAN NOW IDLE THE ENGINE TO COOL IT DOWN. ALSO USE THIS TO WARM THE ENGINE BEFOER A JOB.USE THIS ON ALL YOUR TOOLS TOO. I PUT THE FEMALE ON THE HOSE SUDS MCKENZIE

Doug,
I installed the coupler on the guns. My plugs are installed on my 12" whip hoses. The other end of the whip has a s.s. swivel and a s.s. plug. In this configuration it's kind of like having double swivels. The double shut off plug on the gun and the swivel on the whip keep the main hose from binding.
I can also remove the whip for coil cool down or for filling my soap or chems. with hot water.

The reason I configured this way is because my d.s. off plugs are
rated at 5,000 psi while the coupler is only rated at 1,000 psi. This always keeps my d.s. off plug on the machine end hose.

The d.s off configuration sure beat the heck out of using a heavy ball valve.

Doug,

I have problems with the d.s. off's! I can get them apart fine but I can't get them back together! Hey I am not a little guy either.

Actually had to use to wrenches to bleed off pressure. I uncoupled a few minutes after I had turned the heat off.

Can you or any one else steer me to a solution?

I sure don't want to go back to the huge ball valve!

I will give an engineer or two I know a call Monday!

I HAVE THE FEMALE ON THE PRESSURE HOSE AND THE MALE PLUGS ON THE TRIGGER GUNS. IT IS NOT REAL EASY TO CONNECT THEM BUT IT'S NOT HARD EITHER .YOU HAVE TO HOLD THAT FEMALE OPEN AND PUSH IT ON THE PLUG FAST. WE HOLD THE TRIGGER OPEN TOO.THE TRIGGER HAS THE PLUG .TO ME IT WAS EASY TO PUSH AND HOLD THE HOSE END ON TO A TRIGGER GUN WITH THE PLUG ON IT.AT THE END OF THE JOB,AGAIN THE HOSE HAS THE FEMALE,WE HOLD THE FEMALE OPEN AND POP THE MALE IN FAST ,YOU CAN'T DO IT SLOW BUT A QUICK ACTION WILL WORK.I HAVE BEEN USING THESE PLUGS FOR16 YRS...........................
I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING, BAD FOR YOU I THINK .I FORGOT YOU MUST HAVE A SOFT TRIGGER MACHINE!!!!!!!SORRY I JUST THOUGHT OF THAT. SOMEONE WAS ADVERTIZING IN CLEANER TIMES, A PART TO CONVERT TO SOFT TRIGGER.
E-MALE ME SUDSMCK@AOL.COM.........IF IT IS SOFT TRIGGER,YOU MUST HOLD THE FEMALE OPEN,THEN POP IN THE MALE PLUG....KEEP TALKING TO ME I WILL TRY TO HELP YOU.....
