Dryer vent cleaning

I just wanted to bring this up to everyone. If your dryer has started to take longer to dry your clothes, check the exhaust system!

A house a couple doors down from me caught on fire early this morning. Apparently they don't clean out their dryer vent every year and it caused a fire in their home.

When was the last time you cleaned yours?

"DID YOU KNOW?
Every year, more than 24,000 dryer fires cause in excess of $50 million in property damage in the U.S. alone. Many of these fires result in injury and death. Lint is combustible, and when dryers can't expel hot air - inefficiency, dryer damage, and fire are the result. Most dryer damage and fires could be prevented with proper vent maintenance."

The best bet is to get rid of the cheap flexible stuff and switch over to 4" ridgid galvanized venting. When connecting sections and elbows, never use screws...they collect lint. Just duct tape the sections together, and you're good to go.

Hey, I sent Roger to clean ours....it needed it and it also seems that the flaps on the end that are on the exterior of the house were stuck open!!! Closing them back up certainly stopped that 24 degree draft!
