Freeway/Highway Sign Cleaning ?

I was driving down the freeway yesterday and noticed that a lot of the signs (speed limit, exit sign, etc) had either graffitti on them or they were filthy. Does anybody out there clean these, or do you know if it is the state, city, or county's job to clean them.

Thanks,
Andy

In my area it's called Penn.dot ........and they do all the replacing of those signs when they get bad ....they dont ever get them cleaned ......when they get paint all over them they just put up a new one .......And WE pay for it..........TAXXXXXXXXXXX

Hi Andy
I don't know how it works in the States, but over here in Ireland I approached our local County Engineer and to say that he was enthusiastic is an understatement. His problem was that to get it done he would have to delegate a crew, have them trained in the equipment, liaise with unions etc, etc. So it was far handier to get someone in to do it and no one had ever approached him. So it is a fairly lucrative area, the only problem I found is the amount of red tape with a County/City Council.

So Matt, are you cleaning their signs now? What is rough compensation level in Ireland for such work.
