I wonder how offen a fuel nozzel should be replaced, wonder how many gallons of fuel it takes to wear it enough to replace.

Wear not really but they do have filters on them that should be changed or cleaned. If you run diesel then I recommend every month !!!

Changing fuel nozzles once a year is sufficient.

Monthly changes are not necessary, it would
not hurt but it is not necessary. A good fuel filter
such as a Racor and Red Devil or similar fuel treatment
is a must!:)

Can the higher fuel consumption be caused by this? It seems that I am using a lot than normal.

I sorta figured a feller should change the fuel nozzel atleast every year if not twice a year if they use alot of hotwater like I do.But as always I never think about it,this rig is 3 years old and still spitting out hotwater just fine.I know the fuel nozzel has to wear alittle with all the fuel that passes though it,how much I don't know.I know when new the fuel nozzel has a every fine mist of fuel and I was wondering how much bigger the mist has gotten.Maybe the mist is no longer a mist, more like droplets I guess.Even tho the burner fires ok and heats ok with a wore nozzel the burner could not be burning all the droplets which in turns makes a dirtier coil.

There should be a chart that shows how many gallons of fuel the fuel nozzeles can handle before being replaced.I also wonder if they are different grades of fuel nozzeles, cheap ones and good ones.I think from now on I'm going to change mine twice a year...dat is if I can think about it.

Sorry for the delay in answering Mark... Doesn't seem that it is running any higher, and there isn't any smoke what-so-ever... Probably just my imagination, with Diesel at $2.45 per gal.

Replacing the fuel nozzles every year prevents soot build up on the coils. FYI, and 1/8 inch of soot has an R-factor of about 11. They your burner starts to have problems because it's no longer efficient.

Robert why are you using regular diesel when you can buy red dyed for a lot less? Not a lot of stations have it but some call it off road diesel and you can save all the taxes that way.

Just look for it, ask contractors where they buy it and go there.

If you don't buy red-dyed fuel, you can still utilize a tax deduction for the cost of the fuel, plus a credit for the road tax portion.

Check with your accountant.

I have not seen any service stations around me selling red-dyed fuel. Maybe it's more common in agricultural areas.
