I just want say this is a wonderful forum with loads of information in running a Pressure Washing Business.

My name is Mike I'm from Burlington, NC I've been looking into starting a PW business part-time. I researched several different pressure washer that has been recommended throughout the site. I guess I need to get to the question.

How do you have your equipment setup (for example, do you have 4X8 trailer etc)? I'm looking into doing residental house wash and deck cleaning to start out with.

I'm taking this winter to map out my business plan as well as learning how to properly power wash and use of different chemical.

Any help will greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Mike T.

Since I'll will be starting out as small scale, I currently have a 5X10 landscape trailer. What kind of equipment can mount on this?

Mike,
One great tool here is the search function. Try entering various key words and use the search, and I'll bet you'll find a wealth of information.

THis is a very busy time of year for most contractors right now. That would explain why you haven't received alot of help. Plus. your question was very broad, and it could take a long time to try and cover all the bases.

Try the search, or give Mark a call. He's a good guy, and he's got some really good quality, fairly priced equipment.

Search this topic and you will find a lot of info.

Is your trailer single or tandem axle, and how much weight is it rated for? What about your tow vehicle........what is that?

I have a single axle 5X10 open trailer tow capacity is 3500 lbs. I'm currently pulling the trailer with a 1990 Chevy S10, with 4.3 liter V6 engine. I have a maximum budget of $2500 to start with.

If you are patient you can probably find a good used skid for around $2500. Be careful not to buy someone elses nightmare though.

You might also want to consider a lease purchase of a new skid, let me know if I can be of service, I am only a phone call away!

Go to your nearest home depot or lowes and get a 3000-3500 psi 13hp honda cold water machine for $1000 to $1300. I have seen a 3500 psi cat pump 13hp honda cold water machine at lowes for $1250. Log onto northern tools.com and get a 24' extension wand for $140 . They sell chems as well . Home depot chems is homeowner grade but will get you started until you can find a pro supplier. Most inportant of all , get your self some insurance. Ohio causalty is where many trades get insured. HOse reels are nice but to start you may just want to get an additional 50' of hose . Save some money for advertisement unless you already have work lined up. Buy more as you make more!

The 24' wand they are giving away in the contest for strangest use for pressure washer looks better because the clips look easier to use than the screw tighteners for each section you may want to get one of those.

jeff:

They're much better than the typical cheap fiberglass wand, and not just because of the lock mechanism. They're built to last.

Just make sure you don't get one of those yellow ones - they'll beat you half to death....like wrestling a 50 lb wet spaghetti noodle.

Ace,
With the budget and trailer you have,a cold water machine will get you started. You can add a tank125 gallon should be big enough, this will give you a buffer for water hook ups that have low gpm.
Good chemicals ,they will do most of your work for you.You may want to look into getting a surface cleaner, you can get some of the hover type for under $300 to start out with.
Hose reels aren't a must but sure make picking up at the end of a long work day easier.
A good 35mm or digital camera will come in handy, before and after pics for you dog and pony show to new customers, also before/after pics can save your tail when a customer insists you damaged something.(yes this does happen)
Insurance is indeed a must have, you can not afford to be sued for damages to someones home,it's not worth losing everything you have to cut costs.
Take Roger and Celeste up on their offer, there is no better way to see how things work than first hand, besides from what I have seen they are great people.
Good Luck.
