I remember seeing it some where but when I have a job now with gum I don't know what to charge. Just normal Flat rate for sidewalks, maybe had a bit more for the area which has the gum? It's for a business with 5 entrances, two of the entrances have about 30spots of gum.

When lost in what to charge on any type cleaning work, you need to find what you need to make a hour to stay in the black.

Hmmm I have a 6 gpm hotwater rig and know I need to make at least 100 dallors a hour, more, to stay in the black.

After you find what you need a hour you'll have no problems in knowing what to charge on any job you look at.

If you'll do a search you'll find alot more on how to find my pricing on any job.

Gum Removal Pricing

What to charge is really based on a few different critera for each job.

Obviously the amount of gum is important. But the frequency of cleaning is also helpful as gum that is newer is easier to remove. For pricing, we have to decide what the benefits of acquiring new clients are.
We will sometimes give lower prices on concrete work with excessive gum accumulation, charging a "Initial Cleaning" price the first time that could be waived if the client enters into a maintenance contract (If cleanings are less than 45 days apart, we dont waive fee. If we are over burdened with this type of work, we dont waive fee......etc.)
If the request is for a single cleaning we charge (based on severity of gum, stains and difficulties) 10-18 cents per square ft. More than 10,000 sq ft and we drop to 5-9 cents again based on severity of effluents and difficulties(foilage, water availibility, traffic, obstructions, proximity, payable terms ..etc) .

You can only figure your prices based on your efficiency or labor/material costs. And that can only be discovered by experience.

Good luck though! And remember anything can be accomplished through grace and integrity.

When it comes to gum removal we include it in our service.

We use a hot water unit at about 250 degrees F, which melts the gum and comes off in seconds.

As far a pricing goes if your already charging for cleaning the concrere and theres like 10 pieces of gum them just do include it. If there is more then 10 pieces then charge.

As far as how much you should find out how much you need to be paid either per job or per hour to make sure you make a profit.

The black spot behind the gum is just from the chemical in the gum that eats the concrete and turns it that color. It will fade if concrete is maintained.

Gum Removal Pricing

There are so many different factors involved in pricing for pressure washing... there is already some great advice here. To reiterate, you definitely have to take into consideration how much gum is involved because it does take more time. If there is a lot of gum, ask the owner or property manager if they want gum removal quoted in the price and make sure they are comparing apples to apples if they are getting bids from multiple companies.

We also may charge more for an initial cleaning service than we do for a maintenance contract. However, the size of the contract and our current workload will all play a role in determining the extra amount we need to charge in order to land the account, get the property up to speed, and ultimately turn a profit.

We price based on hourly rate and estimated time required to meet (or exceed) the customer's expectations. You can always quote two prices, one including gum removal, one without.
