Once again the age old question of black streaks on gutters? Some times it comes off with my cleaner and sometimes it does,nt?
Looking for something that won,t kill me or the plants and still leave the paint on the gutters. If you have something like that please let me know how well you like it .
Thanks Tim

I have been using Gutter Zap with success for over a year now. Every now and then I come accross a gutter that is stubborn, but for the most part it works very well. Be sure to not let it dry on windows.....makes a mess out of them.

Yep, I agree Gutter Zap is the way to go. We have tried everything also to find that the Gutter Zap outshines them all. Go to the link above {Xterior}. Now for application I can tell you we made some mistakes with the Zap. Here is how we have found it works best for us:
1) Rinse down all the plants with water. Also hit any windows or the side of the house with a good spray.
2) Lay up your regular house cleaning chems up there and pressure wash it off.
3) While the gutters are wet, dip a brush {use an extension pole if needed} in 100% Zap, not much is needed. Rub the Zap up there.
4) Do not let it dry. Immediately come back and pressure wash it off.
5) Hit the plants again with a little water and don't forget the windows and side of the house or anything else the stuff got on.
4) Results??? Sparkling clean gutters...and happy customers!
Happy guttering!

I've read on this or another board about using a 2:1- 10:1 simple green/h20 solution. Has anyone ever used this combination? and if so, what were the results. thanks

Hey Larry,
I have used the simple green on the gutters also. It works somewhat but does NOT get them totally clean. AND,,,you gotta scrub scrub scrub. You do get alot of the dirt off but not the electrostatic bonding that occurs with the tar from the shingles. The Zap does this without so much scrubbing and DOES get the black streaks out. Zap is somewhat expensive but you don't use very much at a time. It also has many many other applications. Better to talk directly with Ron at Xterior. He is the man with the plan. And, NO I do not get any kickbacks from him for promoting his stuff..

I just have tried everything anyone has ever suggested to me and the Zap works the best.

I've used Simple Green many times with much success. I just spray it on and wipe it off with some mild agitation, and the gutters look great. I did learn that you have to get the gutters right away, or the chemical dries too quickly and is ineffective.

(I use it full strength)

I also have had sucess with gutter zap but I apply it differently. Call me lazy, but I hate to brush or scrub. I apply my house wash chemicals thru the downstream injector, lay the wand down and pick up a i.5 gal pump up sprayer with gutter zap and walk down the gutter line spraying. You can see the black streaks melting away. I then rinse with a pressure nozzle and the gutters and wall are great. Only twice has the gutter zap not worked, but it works 95% of the time. Be sure to mix the right ratio and don't let it stay on very long.

Hi Harold, When you apply your G. Zap through your pump sprayer, what ratio do you use in the sprayer ?

Hey there Harold,
Question...how would you do those second story gutters? ladder? Actually using a pump up on single story gutters would make the stuff fly everywhere...? Please fill me in. {{{always looking for better ways to do things}}}

Barry, the recommended ratio is 2:1 (water to Gutter Zap). Be sure not to let it sit to long on painted gutters or the paint will come off with the black streaks. You can use 3:1 if you have a problem.

Dennis, good questions. I don't have a problem on single story gutters with the pump up sprayer. Just adjust the nozzle to be almost a straight stream so you don't spray the whole side of the house. Remember, if you are 6 ft tall and your arm and the wand is another 4 ft, thats 10 ft to the nozzle. On second stories, this same set up works sometimes. When the house is built off the ground and is two stories, I have a 12 v pump hooked to 150 ft of 3/8" air hose and a wand. This does the job. Let it sit 30 seconds and rinse including the side of the house. I only have to use the Gutter Zap on 1 or 2 out of 10 houses. Good Luck.
