Need some pricing help on heavy equipment....

KAMATSU 300 TRAC-HOE or excavator.

I don't have much information on the shape it is in, I haven't seen it. I just didn't want to walk in and look like a dumba**, even though it may be true. It is for a local contractor that is going to want a price on the spot. He wanted one over the phone but I told him I needed to see it. Need some help so I want be in the blind........Never done large equipment.

I would figure 4 hours and lots of degreaser if it is in fair to semi-poor condition. More if it has years of build up on it.

Heavy equipment is our specialty, it is aprox.95% of what we do. This size of hoe can be done in 45 min. to an hour if you are familar with this kind of work, even if it is quite dirty. If you have little or no experience with this you can count on it taking considerably more time. If it hasn't been cleaned in years it will take even more time. Like most other work take a look at it, take a stab at how much time it will take, and give them a price according to your hourly rate. We do not do this kind of work by the hour, we have a price for every piece of equipment. We have found that most people want to know what it is going to cost them up front regardless how much time it will take. We use two types of degreaser on equipment. One for ground in stains and the other for dirt and grease. We also wax every piece. To spead your work take some rags and wipe out the grease joints on the boom, especially the ones at the base. Also use something to knock the packed in dirt in the track frame. Perhaps, I should mention that we have steam capabilities and run up to 275 degrees. This one asset cuts our time dramaticaly. wouldn't touch equipment with a cold water.

I wash alot of heavy equipment the 15 years in a coal mine.. Of course we had a wash rack which wa used a 2 inch hose to raise all the dirt then move it up to pressure wash..Time wise it takes about 3 hoursand we do this twice a month.. You must see this hoe for sure and ask how must detail washing they need.. Kept in mind if they want the undercarriage wash and it is build up with dirt this will take some time by it self.. Before starting you may need to use a sharp shooter and dig your way threw..Be wise and see if the operator can do this task... If you have good pressure and hot water you could be able to do a great job within 3-4 hours... Good luck
