Help with my first fence

I just stripped and brightened 12 decks at a condo complex. The association likes the work I’m doing well enough thus far, that they now want me to strip/brighten/seal 250’ of privacy fence, also. This fence separates the complex from a fire station. With any luck, I’ll get approval from the Fire Marshall to do their side also, but if not, I have a few questions…

1) I don’t think this fence has ever been sealed, so it may just need a good wash with a sodium percarb solution. How can you tell if there has ever been a sealer on wood? Just splash water on it and look for beads?

2) Even with tarp or plastic hanging behind a fence, how do you prevent some over spray from running down the opposite side along the cracks?

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Hey Bryan ........ If you spary it and put it on without it running it wont run into the next side . Use a LVLP sprayer .. dont bother with those stupid pump-ups . Spray it even if you have to give it a couple coats It will be worth it .. Or sell your service to the Fire co. like you said and spray one side then the other...

If it is old looking and gray even if it did have @ one time a sealer I doubt very much it's there now . if it's gray and weather looking

gotta run !

If you can't sell your service to the fire department check into doing it for free. You can get a tax right off for it and the fire guys will love you for it. It will also get some attention when you park your rig next to it and if the fire department will let you. Put up a yard sign... Just think, your supporting your local fire department.
