I have a potential customer that wants me to pressure wash 13 forklifts twice a year. He said that he normally just goes to Home Depot and rents a machine for the day, but he now wants to hire someone for the job. I have absolutely NO idea on what to charge for this. Has anybody on the forum ever done this kind of work? I would imagine that they arent filthy dirty since he cleans them so often. These are standard gas Clark forklifts used for lifting pallets of paper. Please help if you can as I need to get a bid to him soon.

I would not bid them unless I saw them first, if that is not possible then I would quote an hourly rate.

Good LUCK!

Harrison,

What part of the country are you in?

How long have you been p.washing?

What kind of equipment do you have ? Hot or cold, gpm, psi, ect.

What kind of water supply and gpm is available or do you have a tank?

Are these standard size lifts or large size and capacity?

These are all questions needed to arrive at an answer.

Home Depot in this area does not rent equipment.

Like Mark suggested, you could just use your standard hourly rate x 8 hours but you would be going into it blind.

Who moves the lifts? Some companies will not allow you to drive their equipment because of insurance issues.

Also, what kind of work does he want done? Does he basically just want them rinsed off or detailed? The condition of the forklifts and the condition he wants would help out a lot on the price...

for this work i just tell the customer to let me wash one.
This way i know for sure what's involved and he know's what to exspect from my service.
1 free demo if you cant settle on a price or 1 washed if you do get the account.

I would probably bid it on time and materials.

You will need hot water and a good detergent to do a really good job. If he's been renting from HD, he's likely using cold water, and if he's happy with the results from that, then he'll really be surprised how much cleaner you could get them with hot water.

You could propose the forklifts be cleaned really good with hot water and detergent, then waxed the first time, for a few bucks more. Then regular maintenance cleanings would be a little easier, and you could price them a little lower.

Also, what happens to the waste water? Who cleans up the sludge?

You dont need nothing fancy to wash 'em ..... Heck you dont even need a powerfull soap .............

what is he using the fork-lifts for? WHo is washing the trks. he is loading them onto?

I can do 38 lifts... in about 2 hours (give or take) thats ME moving them outa the garage ...washing 'em then putting 'em back with a wet butt when im done.......LOL

are they propane? gas.... like you said or gas gas . unleaded?

if it's propane take it easy on the engine or you will be dragging the lift back inside .. WHen I do them in the winter I have to throw a tarp over them with a kero heater underneath so it will start ........ I also leave them run while you do the motors .

You gotta watch the fork part, most of them has greese around the chain ..... to make it go up/down ...... leave the greese on the chain ......... thats less mess you gotta clean up afterwards .

as far as price .......... this is where you gotta learn ............. YOURSELF ............ I dont mean to sound mean but there is so many variables/ future work at the site/ .. who moves 'em / wheres the h20 coming from/ how much clean up you gotta do /

not to mention your area who is washing ..etc. etc.

so you got a big window ......... $ 5.00 to $45.00

You can take it from here ........ good luck!!
