Hey guys, I'm still new as can be but I'm going through the ropes of this profession like being wet all day, underbidding, having to move my rig too much, etc. I wanted to share something I learned while washing my first LARGE white vinyl sided 2 story home yesterday. I underbid of course and was cleaning as fast as possible having my helper spray my bleach detergent mix on the house ahead of me while I cleaned; well I noticed on the first story some yellow discoloration on the white siding, my heart sank. I thought to myself " well this is only bleach and detergent, oh crap, I hope its not discoloring the siding". Remember Im new and havent washed a bunch of stuff. I didnt say anything and hoped because these people were old that they wouldnt notice the discoloration (no offense to seniors). I proceeded to clean and finished up when the homeowner came out to look and noticed the discoloration on the siding. My helper spoke up and said that he noticed a galvanized strip under their balcony that was causing the siding to be discolored and the installer shouldnt have put that galvanized strip. He said the galvanized metal causes a chemical reaction and will discolor siding permanently because he had it happen to his tan color vinyl sided house. I inspected the rest of the house and it was perfectly white where there was no galvanized strip, so he must be right. I hope this bit of info helps if someone runs into something like this. Who says you cant find good help!

That was a good one. You should give that guy a raise. Good help is hard to find. When you find them you should pay them what they are worth. Just hope they don't become your competition. That's why you pay them so good so they won't even go there.

hotwaterwizard is right, and always, i mean always make new employees sign a non-compete affidavit when hiring out. When they hire on, they could care less about it since they have no idea what pw is all about.

Just my thoughts

Most states don't recognize non-competes as valid. Still, it acts as a deterrent. (...I was the guy they didn't pay well...)
