How Long?

Guys I submitted a bid for a large job a week ago at a hospital. How long does it usually take to get a reply? I faxed it to the administrator like I was supposed to. I sure hate to call and bug them. What should I do?

Call and bug them. Go under the guise of making sure that there are no questions.

Any statement that I make about equipment, processes or your hair color is my own personal opinion. I usually base it on personal experience. If you disagree with me you are free to reply on both the BBS and by e-mail. If I am totally off base please explain why on the BBS so that we may all know why;)

Have you heard the saying - out of site - out of mind?

I just lost out on doing a drugstore because I didn't want to bug the guy!

He actually forgot about me!

Make sure all of his questions are answered the next time you call.
After that - start offering other services that you can provide - make that sound like an after thought! One of those "OH! By the way did you know that we can do..." type of things.
Remember, fear will keep you on the porch with the puppies!

Yep, all are correct. As an educator I have hired 100's of teachers. I know this is not like putting in a bid for someone but the principle is close. You need to "bug" them. Eagerness is contageous. Go for it. Call call call. Make yourself known. The teachers who called me several times before an interview, after the interview and even after they were hired got my confidence. Show them you are interested, capable and confident of your craft. Just my penny's worth.

A national fleet is moving to our area. They took bids 2 months ago but have still not started washing trucks yet! We go by there every week or two to see what is going on. Made a great friend in the office which will hopefully help us when the corporate office makes a decision.

How Long? Sometimes a really long time! It took one of our better accounts about 5 years!! We have been cleaning their kitchen exhaust systems once a year now for the last 8 years or so, but they had no interest when we first bid and followed up!!

I agree with the other folks, you need to continue to follow up with your bid. When the customer is ready to buy, you must have your name at the top of the list of vendors to call! Oh, by the way this customer has 19 stores!
