How to get Sealant off from brick and flagstone?

My client has an area about 6x10 as a back door patio. While small parts of the sealant have failed, much seems to be in place pretty tenaciously. There is some crackle (like in pottery) visible in much of what remains.

Any guesses as to what this is, and more importantly, what will take it off?

Thanks to all,

I take it the owners have no idea what was used. So the only way to do it is by tial & error. Looks like a T&M job to me. I'd start with Klean-Strip; it removes most binding agents used in paints and sealant. It’s a jell and can be bought at Home Depot and most paint stores. Nasty stuff, read all MSDS and follow all safety info. Watch out for run-off and back spray when washing.

I would definitely try out the stripper like Walt said. Any good heavy duty paint stripper should work, and be careful of the area around u, it will take paint off of anything it contacts whan its still wet(the stripper will that is) water will usually nuetralize it immediately. Good luck!
