How to measure pH?

How do you measure pH of wood? Most pH meters I've found only measure pH of liquid or semi-solids. I assume it's ideal to have a neutral (7.0) pH.
I use a water-based product from Southern Tradition. Anyone out there heard of / used it? I've done a hand-full of decks with great results, due, in no small part to the wonderful info in this forum and the help of my supplier.

Which? How? When? why would you want to measure the Ph of wood? Are you concerned that you are leaving an acidic or basic mixture on it? other then that I am not sure what the point would (wood) be

When reseaching this forum prior to beggining my deck sealing service, pH came up on a lot of posts. Whether cleaning or stripping a deck, I always neutralize/brighten but I would (wood) like to be sure I'm in the "neutral" range. The lat deck I did turned out beautifully but DRANK the sealer (125 sq ft/gal). I'm wondering if I over neutralized.

125 s/f per gallon is actually pretty good for a deck that has been stripped.

Wood should be slightly acidic prior to sealing. I know some guys that don't even rinse the brightener.
