This is the time that separates the men from the boys. I'm just playin' with you, Scrappy. This topic has been discussed for years and other than pursuing kitchens and commercial work, there is nothing to do but travel, work on other businesses or get a job if you need revenue. Next spring, remember the struggle this winter and raise your prices.

Boy Glad it don't snow here in Floria least not yet!!!!

I just put in a bid to wash 4.2 miles of curbs
10,000 s/f of sidewalks
was beat on my last bid by 1200 bucks but hey the guy WHO dose the lawn don't want any one new in his part of the woods LOL
GOING to wash a 4,000 s/f roof this weekend
plus i have 32 fast food stores that need a wash once a month

Have some wood repair to and painting

So Scrappy hang in there try painting look for indoor jobs
just to get you by for now
if not work on what you can do for spring
good luck

Personify your name by getting scrappy. While this industry mirrors most in that the 80/20 rule applies, i.e. 80% of your business comes from 20% of your customers, it also allows one to diversify. Our core business is shopping centers but I do everything from residential driveways and gutters to 24" spinners.

Always have a boilerplate flyer available. I just use Word and change the bullet points depending on my target audience or seasonaility. Put one up in your Student Union. All college towns have a main drag. Make sure every establishment gets one. Use Craigs List to promote your capabilities. Find out who else (if any) power washes in town and introduce yourself. Networking never hurt and it may give you a measuring stick.

And when that first big winter storm hits have your chains ready cause your wand is a pretty handy snow removal tool.

Good luck.

Seems crazy but 70% of summer income can be made during the winter months.

thanks for the ideas. . . and the networking is a def. no no lol i use to work for the only other guy in town and when i decided to venture off on my own, he became a complete a$$ ****. . . i.e. i also do lawn care & landscaping and just recently he saw me out and about and made it a point that he was also going to take up lawn care next year but being a athlete in HS has made me always love some good competition lol :p
