Insurance

Hey All,

Seriously thinking about purchasing insurance before this season starts. I have a qoute for both window and pressure cleaning for a million dollar policy. I'm curious to know whether 1m is enough? The qoute is for about a 1000 a year. Sounds fair but I've never carried insurance before, and now with advertising pressure washing more, I think it's going to be a good investment. I still have to see if CCC is with this policy... any other suggestions to check into are appreciated.

Thanks,
Micah Kommers

In my state of Maryland, insurance is required by law for all licensed contractors. Does South Carolina not require you to have a license or insurance?

Even if you're not "required" to have ins, you'd BETTER have it!! Nothing will make you lose your shirt faster than getting sued over something stupid that would've been covered by a policy.....That's the little world I live in>

Crouse,

Nope, never had any problems at all with licenses. Did look at getting them, but each city or area that I did business in wanted a % fee of total income. So I would have to have several different business names for each area that I do business. I do carry a license for the area in which I do the majority of my work. I am going to buy insurance, im sold. I just want to make sure I get the correct amount for a decent price.

Thanks,

That is about the going rate for 1 mil liability. Most commercial accounts require that much as well. make sure you look over your policy, many policies do nto cover the actual item you are working on.

My ins. guy was only able to find one company to insure power washing and I will be paying 1800 for a 300k policy. I will be checking to see how much more for a Million. This is with a 1000k deductable and protects me from property damage and personal injury. I guess there have been a lot of claims involving power washers which is the reason for high premiums. Just make sure your policy covers pressure washers and not just a general contractor's ins. because these usually do not cover it and you could be S.O.L.
