Just starting out.

Hello all,

I have read quite a bit of the posts and enjoyed them all. I am just starting out in this business. But hink it is a great one to do. I have had the idea for quite some time. I was in the Marines for four years. During that time I used a pressure washer to decontaminate all types of equipment in case of Nuclear Biological and Chemical attacks. These systems would heat up over 250 degrees celcius basically steam. And would peel the paint off most anything on full throttle. Currently I have a honda 13 hp 3000 psi. To start I plan on doing driveways, sidewalks, tile roofs, Wood decks, fences, And boat docks. All with sealant.

Another field that I have heard that may be good for those in the bay areas is Marina's. Evidentally they have a problem with bird droppings on the boats and the docks that lead to them. Any suggestions on this.

Thanks

The birds and the bugs..

Good luck in the biz... I've been learning and working part time for quite some time, and this is the best place I've found to learn w/o a wand in my hand! Thanks to all the professionals on board. As for the marina, I was going to post a question tonite about lake-front cleaning. I'm bidding a private club on the lake that is wood siding COVERED in bug carcasses. They are drawn to the lights and die clinging to the rough wood siding. Anyone have expeience with these critters? Maybe just a detergent and HW will work, and I'll sure do a test patch, but just wonderin'???

I would first try a test area using just water without chemicals.
In California they are pretty particular about chemicals getting in to lakes etc.

I am assuming that that would also be a concern for you?

I would think the bugs are not as much of an issue if they get blasted off of the siding and wind up in the lake!

James,
Welcome aboard. I use to say that in the NAVY when you marines came aboard. I was on an amphibious ship and we use to carry you marines around to drop you off in some desulate place like Beriut(early 80's) Us squids and you jarheads made for some crew. We use to have boxing matches on my ship where the Navy guys would take on the Marines. OF course these were well organized. They were held on the flight deck. It was fun to see some of the fat Navy guys beat on the chiseled Marines. But of course in the end the Marines would have more wins. It was probably due to the fact that they you guys always worked out while we were always eating and playing cards. Either way there wasn't to many people from any country who wanted to mess with the SQUID/JARHEAD combo. We made for a great team.

I can't answer your question about boats because I don't do them. Marks answer sounds like a good one. Either way welcome to this bb. Its one of the best if not the best and the info is free. Some of us have even sent donations to Dan F. to help support this site that. Either way the best thing to do is to ask questions and even answer some if you can. You'd be surprise how much can be learned by doing those two things. Anyway once again "Welcome Aboard"

Thanks for the info

Mark,

As you said a concern for me, I know that while doing ajob the is animal clean up that I should wear a mask of some sort. Of course I learned this from this site and BB.

I wouldn't think that I would need any chemicals for the boats but maybe for the decks and docks I just looked at your web site and saw the citra kleen would you suggest that to work since it is bio friendly.

I would be careful with the boat finishes. Many are gel coated, and might be damaged by too high of pressure.

Just a thought.....
