Ladder rack

Hey Guys,
Anybody know where a fellow can get a GOOD price on a ladder rack for a van. I like the one piece aluminum design. The best price I have found so far is at the Ladder Man web site. @$500.00. I was thinking about the 2 bar steel type, less than $200.00, but I might wait and get what I really want the one piece aluminum. Just hope I don't get any jobs where I need the big extension ladder in the mean time. What do you other Van drivers use?

Glenn,

Three years ago, I bought these cheap "2-bar steel type" ladder racks for my first van. They only cost $75! I bought them locally, so I don't know where to tell you to go. They are intended to carry 400lbs, but I probably have had them overloaded for years now.....and no problems.

On the roof of my van I carry four ladders.....two 24', a 28' and a 36'. These cheap things are still working for me.....don't spend all that money on one of those one piece racks unless you need some serious capacity or just think they look cool.

American Van 1.800.526.4743 offers ladder racks. I have not bought one, but I have purchased parts bins from them. the parts bins have held up for 5 years. How about more input on ladder racks? I need to get one for my service tech's ford E-250 so she can carry the 6 and 8 ffot ladders on top.

Did you say she? I'll bet she can work the pants off a man anyday, no pun intended. HeHe.

I shopped a long time for inexpensive racks for my GMC Rallyvan. I found some Quik-N-Easy gutter-mount brackets at a kayak/canoe sporting goods store. Those plus 4 nuts, 4 bolts and two 2x4's and I had some dandy ladder racks for about $65. I used some good paint, and they match the van's white top! Plenty strong if ladders and a few odds & ends, boards, etc. is all you're carrying. Good luck.

Mine is ugly but it was cheap a little metal and a welder did the trick.

If your close enogh to a big city - try running an ad in a Pennysaver or other paper - I got a ladder rack attached to 2 side mount locking tool boxes for $225.00 for my Pick-up. It was a good heavy duty steel one!

Shoot - for that matter I'ld almost be willing to sell the rack part off my tool boxes (almost!)
