Larger Fuel Tank Help

I recently bought a diesel unit with a 11hp Honda GX340. I'm already tired of stopping to refuel and dealing with the gas cans. I am thinking of mounting larger remote tanks for both diesel and gas.

If I keep the diesel tank close, the pump on the burner should handle it...right?

So is a fuel pump made for this motor or do I need to look at a 12v automotive fuel pump if it would work?

Your input is appreciated

The fuel pump on burner should pull from the tank if it is close.

Fuel pump for engine, Honda offers one, or you can use automotive also,
be careful not to use a pump w/ too high of psi.

Hello HarQuin,

Our White truck
red-and-wht-013_10a.jpg
on the left side of this picture has two 50 gallon fuel tanks. We changed the right (curb side) tank to diesel (K1) We use a diaphram (electric) fuel pump to supply our 5800 Series Hotsy. We also ran a return line back to the tank. Our Hotsy is a single fuel unit. Both the engine and burner are running the same fuel from this 50 gallon fuel tank.

This allowed us to remove all fuel tanks from the Hotsy skid. We don't have the hassel of refueling during a job, no fuel cans to carry and have many days fuel supply.

The chassis has a 454 gas engine. It runs from the other 50 gallon tank also mounted to the frame under the cab.

Thanks for the input

Mark, Can you get the pump for the motor?

Dave, Nice setup.

I'm not sure exactly where Catlin is, I was pretty young when we moved. But your not that far from the Barry/Quincy area?

Hi Harlyn,

We are located on the East side of Illinois a couple hundred miles from Quincy which is on the West side of the state.

Harlyn,

Let me tell you the way my rig is set up. It is an open skid. I have a tool box in front which looks big and deep, but in reality it is half tool box and the bottom half is a 50 gal diesel tank. It came this way when I bought it. I bought it from Landa, but I ma sur eyou could find something similar else where. With this set up I refuel seldom and seem to last forever plus the tank is still very close to everything. I did have to install a small pump for my regular fuel tanks for some reason they said at the elivation I was at that the pump would not pull the fuel from teh tanks. Very easy to install and works great now. Hope this gives you some ideas on things to do

Do you know about what psi the gas pump is...Mark said a low psi pump but what exactly is low psi for a fuel pump?

How is the Landa Holding up?

I just bought a Landa 4gal @3000, water jet surface cleaner, and a cold water unit with low hours for 2k. I figured on using it around the shop but have decided to put it to work. It works good so far if I can keep fuel in it.

I still prefer a propane unit.

Harlyn,

The easiest approach would be to call your local Honda engine dealer
and order a fuel pump for your engine.

We do not carry them.

Fueltank / Tool Box

A fueltank / Tool Box like Dominic described can be purchased from Tractor Supply. They were made to fit in the bed of a truck to transfer fuel to equipment.

Harlyn,

The psi I am running is 3 psi. The pump I bought has a varible psi adjustment on it. It ranges from 1psi all the way to 8 psi. I talked to my local honda dealer and he thought 3 psi would be good enough any higher he thought it might flood the engine.

My Landa is doing great. I really think Landa is the best no problems at all. They seem to be built to last.

Hey HarQuin,
I just went through that last year. Honda makes an adapter that goes between your Carb. and engine that has a vacuume fitting on it. You run a vacuume line from it to a diaphram pump made by Briggs that will pull fuel from your larger tank to the engine. This pump has an internal bypass in it so it only supplies what your engine needs. I changed over from a 13 HP to a 20 HP this Winter so my new engine already has it's own pump. If you can use the pump I will send it to you. Also you can drill and tap that isolater between your carb and engine and install small barbed fitting that will do the same thing as the Honda adapter.
