license & equipment

hey, im located in southern california, me and a buddy of mine want to start a pw business, small jobs (drive/walkways) due to lack of experience. is it critical to be licenced? im sure its a stupid question, i just have no idea on the matter. we were thinking of starting with a troy-bilt 3700psi, 13hp honda engine. is that something workable? hopefully, if busness grows look into something bigger. any help would be appreciated, thanks

No such thing as stupid but I strongly suggest you take some business classes first.

Your close to me and I can tell you this before you even spend one penny YES you need a business license and much more, insurance, reclaim equipment, working capitol, the right equipment and an understanding of the CWA.

In some cities here you even need to pass a test showing them how your reclaim works before you can LEGALLY work in that city.

And you will get caught in time if you are not following the laws. Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, Riverside are enforcing the CWA very strictly so unless you have deep pockets to pay the fines and unless you understand chemicals and all the other things required to be a pressure washer DON'T do it.

Cold hard blunt words but true.

I was wondering if there was anyone on board in the Massachusetts area? I assume that each state is different as far as licensing goes. I am specifically wondering what type of license would be needed for power washing. Would it be a license for power washing or a general business license? Info on getting the process started would be helpful. Being new to board and business world, I apologize if these questions seem to be a "no brainer"
