Joe,
I do not know what you plan to wash but, 3.0 gpm is a low volume machine.

Might be ok when limited to decks, fences ect.

Just remember more gpm = less work.

I would use 4.0 gpm 3,000 psi as a benchmark and go up from there. This would be a 35% increase over a 3.0 gpm machine.

If you don't have the cash now wait until you do. It will be money well spent.

Now an a 8.0 gpm machine...........................

I will be using it to wash siding that I will be repainting, to loosen up delaminating paint, and of course to wash my cars. I thought 3gpm and around 2700psi would do the trick, but I understand that more volume and more power is a quicker job.

So who are the good manufacturers?????? Not the sears craftsman/Lowes built by the lowest bidder throw-away brands.

thanks

Joe it is acommon misconception that the PSI is what does the cleaning when in fact it is the gpm. There are many reputable brands out there but it sounds like this is not a career investment that you are looking to make. Your best move would be to find a local distributer of pressure washers that also services machines and establish a relationship with them. They will guide you in the right direction and be able to help you out in the future.
Where are you located?

Sounds like you should rent one first. Washing cars with a PW is not really going to do much than get it wet. Unless it's a 4x4 full of mud your arm and a bucket of water would be faster and get better results.

I wonder why car washes are so popular than?

:p Your saying a home owner that wants to spend 300 plus on a 3gpm system is going to be happy washing his car?

I have a PW and I can say only that as a home owner ( ME ) I am not going to pull out my machine to wash my truck with cold water even thought it's a 4gpm machine.

I can drive it down the road and get it washed and spray waxed and under body wash as well for 6.99 and spot free dry with wet shine put on the tires. And if I buy gas a buck off.

This is not a drive thru cheapo car wash it's 175 feet long.

Read the first post again, he wants to do some work around the house wash some paint off before painting and wash his car. Not go into biz...

Tim,
Here is Joe's first post, the one I responded to.

See anything that says the pwer will be used around the house?????????

And yes a pressure washer will work fine for washing cars trucks ect. And guess what, you can even apply wax with them!
