Masonite siding ..

I just had a call from a lady who wants me to give her a price on washing and painting her home .. She said the maintenance guys said she had "masonite siding" and they think that pressure washing it will press water inside of the wood and posibly get in the house .. I've never heard of that issue so I was wondering if any of you guys know what she's talking about so I can have a lil. knowledge prior to bidding it .. Do you have to change the pressure of the water ? Or what ?

The house in the picture has Masonite siding. I think Masonite is really just paper bonded together to make a board!

This house was constructed in the mid 60's. Masonite has a life expectancy of about 30 years. I have cleaned and painted this building many times. I have owned it since 1977.

When we clean we apply our detergent using low pressure, brush the surface and lightly rinse.

When you try to remove peeling paint, you will remove part of the siding along with the paint chip!

We have been living on borrowed time with this siding for many years. Someday I will just have to breakdown and spend the bucks for new siding!!

would it be best to apply the chemical, and rinse off with a hose ? I don't want any of the water getting in that press wood. I'm sure it would expand (bow out) ...

You just need to have a greater standoff distance than you would on other types of siding.

Somtimes we use an open gun (no tip) to rinse our pumps put out 10 gpm.

You must be sure to get the siding rinsed real well before you can paint. If you use a latex paint, you can paint within a day or so if the weather is dry.
