Just a guess

Check the offending spark plug wire from the spark plug where it goes into the engine case (hint-passes through a grill and through a guide hole in the carburator area). I had a friend with a similiar issue and found his wire shorted and burned in two here. His Honda motor would not run at all. I beleive if he listened to his motor like you have the wire would not have burned completely in two. I think it is a possible Honda defect when i spotted it. Or not a good plce to run a wire. Keep us posted!

Thanks Ben,hopefully thats it,I found it today, its not burnt but was pinched will bad.I haven't run it long enough to see whether that was it or not, with 22240 hours on the engine I thought it may have a bent valve. After I run it tomorrow I''ll let you know if that was it or not.

My honda 20 has gone thru a few magnetos. Same thing, it would work fine and then quit. Restart the engine and it would be fine again.

Wait until it starts to backfire and you think people are shooting at you. Or worse, they think you are shooting at them.

I work my little 20 HP pretty hard. I will probably need to replace some more mags real soon. I was hoping to just get a real engine, but it has to wait for a bit.

After standing on my head looking I sorta figured it would be behind the starter or some place not easy seen.

I'll replace both while I have it torn down,I also want a check valve kit for a 55 cat pump,do I need other numbers other then the 55?
