We just recently cleaned a drive thru lane for a bank. The lanes are concrete. The areas up to the lanes are asphalt which has recently been painted. We did not use any chemicals for fear of staining the asphalt. We cleaned the lanes using a surface cleaner and hot water. After we rinsed the lanes and asphalt. However, the asphalt has changed color--it seems to be stained a reddish/brown color. Could this be from oil/grease deposits drying onto the asphalt? What could it be and can it be cleaned? Will it fade over time?
Thanks!

Maybe when you used the hot water, you melted some of the tar they used on the resurfacing of the asphalt. If so it will fade in time. If they used some type of sealer instead the stain will be like the ring you get on your coffee table. You will have to get a small quanity from the guys who did the asphalt and touch it up. Or turn it over to them as their problem not yours

I agree you removed some of the top layer of asphalt oil.
Don't use a surface cleaner on asphalt. It's not like cement, you damage it very fast (before you relize it).
There is a product on the market for small jobs comes in 1 gal containers, it's a sealer for asphalt.
