My customer wants the front part of his church cleaned. it is painted wood siding. it is dirty with road grime from the busy road it faces. customer is worried that the paint will peel due to age. i was thinking of useing a mild car soap and wax in one diluted with water then downstreamed onnto surface. any help will be great thanks.

john,

what kind of chem would you use in this situation? customer does not want to paint the entire church and painting the front and nothe the rest would not look right. he just wants the dirt off the siding. could I just use water and low pressure with 45 degree tip?

I would use a very good soap and a very low pressure rinse (at least a 15 tip...I use a 10 often, and that will still peel paint that is ready to peel. You don't want a mild soap, since that will do less to remove the dirt and will require more pressure. You might want to use a good foaming agent too, to give the soap some cling. Email me at mike@northfloridapressurewashing.com if you have a hard time finding one.

If the paint is not cracked, bubbled or blistered more than likely it will not peel off.

Also it will more than likely have a soot build up b/c of it setting close to the busy road.I would rather use a 25 degree tip with hotwater with a degreaser or soot removing chemical mixed in with my soap mix.You can control your psi by standing back away from the surface or stand closer if need be.

I am with Larry on this one. Use a good degreaser mixed in with your soap mix. I would not use anything smaller than a 40 degree tip though. Set your hot temp at around 90 degrees and you should have no problem. Anything hotter than that may cause the paint to soffen. WARM WATER NOT HOT WATER.....

Will agree on the warm water,my meaning of hotwater goes from luke warm to hot hot water.

Will also agree with a larger fan nozzel if you have the knowledge as how to use them, means less wand passes.

If you set the burner at 90 degrees it doesn't mean you will have 90 degree water hitting the surface. When the hotwater exits the nozzel tip it starts cooling off, depends on the distances/weather and surface your cleaning as to how fast it cools off.A 90 degree setting should be ok on vinyl.........

Chip have you washed it yet?,if so how did you do?

it turned out good. i used a 50/50 mix of krudd kutter frome lowes and water. i sprayed it on and let dwell then rinsed with cold water. i don't have hot. I used a duel lance wand to adjust my pressure the only thing that didn't come as clean as i wanted was the painted deck but if i used any more pressure the all the paint would have come up. i think they are going to want me to repaint the deck soon. thanks for all of your help.
