Ok guys, I want to go out and buy a ladder that I can use for everyday use, for roofs and gutters. What do you recommend I buy as far as type and height? I know I have to get one rated for my weight but don't know whether to get an A-frame or extension ladder. All input would be appreciated. Hugh

It is hard to get by with just one type. I use my 8' step ladder the most. Sometimes it gives me the extra few feet I need to reach the second story etc. It is also good for single story gutter clean outs. It is not tall enough to safely get on most single story houses.
For a general use extension I like 20', although I have a 28'er for tall buildings as well.
It boils down to whether or not you get on roofs. If not getting on a roof an "A" step ladder is great because I can climb up a few feet and not be right on the building.

Ladders

Thanks for your response. I will be doing roofs up to 2-story. I was thinking about a 24' extension ladder and if the funds allowed I might get a 14' A-frame. What do you think? The 14' A-frame I could also use in my home since I have a 25' foyer and to clean the window sill which the bottom is at 13' from the floor. Hugh
