Ok I did do my search and found a little help, but not just what I was hoping for.

Do any of you clean Applebee's, TGIF etc. awnings?

If so do you just rinse off with warm water or use a cleaner and brush? How much to charge, how often, monthly or quarterly?

Bidding an Applebee's restaurant but they want the awnings done, something I have not done or considered but if that is what it takes to get the chain I will learn how to do.

HELP PLEASE, can post or Email if you do not want others to see your prices.

Thanks,
Jon

Hello Jon,

I am a certified Awning & Canopy Cleaner. The best advise I can give you is to proceed with caution. You will need an arsenal of chemical for every imaginable scenario including applications on materials that can run when chemical is applied (always test a little chemical in an inconspicious spot with a q-tip). Agitation with a brush and dwell time is recommended although you should never allow the chemical to dry (always a minimum of 2 people to a crew). Use pressure sparingly and proceed with caution, like anything hot is usually better. Sealed awnings are usually easier to re-clean. There is a vast array of sealers out there too, and like cleaners every situation is different. Charge for the time it will take. By the square foot up to $1.40 to clean & seal with sealing up to 50% of the cleaning cost. Frequency will depend on environmental conditions and the clients wishes. I've done canvas in the suburbs once a year and vinyl in an industrial setting monthly. Training is available with on-line resources. Experience is key. In my training my test quotes were both 40% too low and 30% too high compared to a highly experienced company that held the accounts.

Good Luck

Thanks to all who sent E-mail, I can see it is not something I want to get into. I will continue doing what I do best and leave the other stuff to the guys who do that best.

Let the guys who specialize in awnings do them although I was told that the company that does the flat work also does the awnings.

I did have to find out before I put in my bid, I bid for the flat work only, and if it comes to me great, if not no big deal.

Use a search engine and search "Awning & Canopy Cleaning", I like "Google" as a search engine. Check out the training available through information offered by companies and organizations like Awning Rejuvenation Systems, N.A.R.P.A.C., etc..
