Hello everyone. I Have been a member for a while but this is going to be my first post. I have hot water unit with a honda engine and a beckett burner. I was using the equipment yesterday, i turned on the hotwater and it worked fine then about 5 mins later it was cold. I checked the burner and i turn it on and the blower blows but the water is not heating up. It usually makes a distinct sound when its working and you can see smoke blowing, but not now. I did the screw driver check on the 2 springs and it is sparking good. I also checked to see if anything was clogged and everything is fine as far as the hoses and filters go. When its running i pulled off the return and plenty of diesl is flowing. If anyone knows what it could be please let me know or help me figure this out. thanks jonathan

I am a little concerned with the statement:
when its working and you can see smoke blowing

Are you saying the burner has been smoking for some time?

A properly functioning burner should not smoke!

Black smoke usually indicates too much fuel and or not enough air.

White smoke usually indicates incomplete combustion.

With a 12 volt systems it iscrucial that you have a minimum of
12 volts, try charging your battery to start with.

It doesnt really smoke, i may have stated that wrong its almost clear when it was burning every so often you would let out some white some but not very often. As far as the battery goes i just put in a new one because the last one was bad. Anyother ideas?

If the blower motor comes on, and you
have spark, then we need to be sure we
have fuel going in to the burner.

Loosen the fuel line slightly between
the fuel solenoid and the burner, it should
spray fuel out my guess is it will not, do
you have power at the fuel solenoid?

While test firing is fuel building up in the chamber (coils)?,if so it could be your electricodes need setting.
When you say its sparking good does it have a frying sound as hot hot, sometimes it will have a weak spark as to a hot spark, weak spark will not fire the burner. You need to carry a spare transforumer for the 12v systems.

Well mark i just did what you said to take out the fuel line from the pump to where it goes into the burner and i turned it on and very little fuel came out. How much fuel is supposed to come out? Could the solenoid be bad? How do u check it?

I just tried to check the solenoid with a light tester and nothing, but then i checked the thermostat and im not getting anything out of that. Im going to wait till the morning and do some more testing.

You can test the solenoid coil
by removing it from the valve
body stem, and then apply
power to the coil (electro-magnet)

Place a screwdriver or other steel
object in to the coils hole if it is
working it will grab the screwdriver
remember the coil is an electro-magnet.

If you need a new coil or a complete
solenoid with coil assembly I can ship
it to you. [hello]

i replaced the solenoid and im still not getting fuel out. I checked it with a screw driver and it seems to be magnitizing. Could it not be working all the way. Could the thermostat or flow switch not working properly to give it enough power? Let me know thanks

How did you power the solenoid coil when you tested it?

If the blower motor is turning but no fuel
going to fuel solenoid it would be a fuel
pump problem.

Is your fuel solenoid valve built in to the
fuel pump or is it attached via a banjo bolt?

If it is the banjo bolt style loosen the banjo
bolt and see if it sprays fuel when you power
the solenoid if it does not I would suspect fuel
pump is bad.
