Not Effloressence

Blown Away

Need some help. Do not get the opportunity to do many brick buildings and got a call about some white stains on a brick summer home. Did a search on this network and kinda figured it was effloressence. Went and checked it out and what it turned out to be was the white shutters over time had run on the brick causing a white stain under each window. My question is will sure klean remove these white stains or should I go with an acid wash. Rest of house has basic surface dirt. Any help would be appreciatted.

before i went crazy looking for a acid. I think i would try my best deckstripper first.

Try one of the brick manufactuers' sites like www.canadabrick.com for solutions.

If all else fails you can contact their technical department and get expert help.

Also, try and find out what the shutters are made of or painted with. If it is paint then I would try a professional paint supplier and get their take on the job.

Hope this helps? Cheers.

To remove paint, will need to use either a NaOH base, as stated above, or a solvent based - depends on the paint. Try the deck strip, some goof off, graffiti remover, and/or paint remover (which will contain acetone, toluene, methylene chloride and sometimes cellosolve.

If the brick is very smooth, and hard, simple PWing sometimes does the job. I have learned to bid these types of jobs on an hourly basis, plus cost of chems.
