I hear some some people say they spray an entire area down with oxalic acid sometimes before or sometimes after they are done cleaning to brighten it up, what do you use to apply it to get a uniform coat. Ive tried pump ups and they all seem to fail. thanks

use the x-jet

After i clean or strip the deck I use Deck Brite(oxcialic acid) 2lbs per 5gal of water and apply it with the x-jet using the close range nozzle and no rinse. This has worked the best for me lokks like a new deck when done

Pumps are okay thats all I ever used. Till I found out about Shurflow Pumps :) they cut 2 to 3 hours work time vs pump ups.

Most cleaners darken wood....

If for instance you wanted to make a sign out of new redwood but wanted it to looked aged you would put on sodium Metasilicate ( Deck tergent from Super Deck ). Flip that around and you would use oxcialic acid to make the old wood look new.

I did my fir deck last weekend and it looks brandy new again becuase I used oxcialic acid.

oxcialic acid is not bleach and does not burn the fibers of the wood so yes keep using oxcialic acid on new for lite cleaning and old wood after a deck tergent was used.

And get a shurflo pump I have and others posted setup plans in equipment/hardware area here.

Hey Tim,
If you are using a shurflo to apply a brighter, make sure you move the hose and don't keep it one spot or you will see hose marks, where the acid stays wet, you can see like a very bright spot almost like you can see into the wood.

If you use the x-jet to apply oxalic acid don't forget your respirator. That stuff will gag you and give you chest pains if inhaled.

Have not seen anything yet. I use a 50 foot hose and it gets lots of movement. I know to watch for moving the hose while spraying cuase if you don't you see the hose mark becuase the acid did not get under it.

PS: WHen my son works with me during summer vacation we call the acid ( AC ) and the deck detergent ( DT ) I felt saying acid a customer mite get freaked out

Don't ask why I said that? LOL foot ball game was good tonight. Must be late....
