i was called today by a guy who has several houses that has the old "blown on" stucco. he said that the paint is peeling and would like to know if i could remove the old paint. i will meet with him on sunday but i wanted to get a little info on this texture before i talk to him. has anybody come across this before? how brittle is "blown on" stucco? i assume that it is very old. how would you do this type of job? thanks for any input you can give.

Hi Randy,

Just how old is the paint? Is there any chance of having some lead paint on it? We don't do this type of work anymore but I am familer with the old blown on stuco. This stuco could be very hard or it could be solf, depends on what mixture was used during application. Give the home a good inspection. If you see any areas where the stuco is cracked or flaking, let the customer know ahead of time that there is a chance that some of it might come off due to the cleaning. Do not try to just pressure wash off the paint. There is a stripper that we use that will remove paint, it will cost about .30 per sq. foot to use. Never tie yourself into a contract untill you are sure that the products you intend to use will work. It's always best to play it safe and not sorry. If I can be of any help, just let me know.
