Painting Brick Retaining Wall

High Pressure

A customer had a new brick retaining wall installed while he wasn't home. When he got home he noticed they installed the wrong color bricks . . . red instead of tan. I told him to make them reinstall the wall since it's the type of bricks that are just piled on top of each other. He's thinking of having them painted. What type of paint would you use for this situation? Don't want to loose the effect of the rough brick edges so I was thinking of lightly spraying it on.

Does anyone know if these bricks are naturally colored or does the manufacturer paint them to begin with?

Thanks.

i work for lowes and the bricks you are refering to is call castle retainig wall blocks and the blocks are the same color through out the block, its in the mixture of concrete they use to create the stone.if the customer did in fact tell them a specific color they should be made to rebuild the wall, the home improvement warehouse will be more than willing to swap them out if they are not damaged ,now from personal experience sometimes a customer will feed you a lot of bull to get what they want are you sure the customer did not come home and saw the color and did not like it and decided they would rather have another color now they want you to bale them out and take it from me i have seen them painted and they looked bad so be carefull they may not like your paint job and make you replace the wall.just think about it these blocks are not cheap if they told the builder a certain color why wouldn't they make them do it right.you may be stepping in the middle of a mine field

Actually the customer is a family member and I helped him make the decision on the color of the bricks. We chose crab orchard because that is the stone used on the top of his stoop. The wall is adjoining to the steps and surrounds his flower bed. The contractor told him he ordered crab orchard and this is what came in. There's a big difference between crab orchard (tannish) and red! I think the contractor is just making excuses and taking advantage of someone who is being too nice. Now he wants to correct the problem by painting it, but I think it will look like crap!

If the contractor won't right his wrongs, it seems like this would make a good small claims court case.......

If you were a landscape contractor and you got to a job and the supply house had dropped off the wrong color bricks.....wouldn't you just call them up and have them deliver the right kind? Who in their right mind says "lets build it anyway!"

Well, good luck.
