Going to see it Sunday. I cant wait. The wife opted out due to all the graphic hype. But I am going with the in-laws.

Gotta respect Mel Gibosn for this. He stood up to all.

That was easy................no waiting in line presto two minutes and $20 later we got our 2 tickets!

That's the way we get all our movie tickets now, it is worth the extra $1 a ticket not to wait in the ticket line.

My wife and I saw it opening day. The crowd coming out was very quiet. Made everyone think. There were TV crews getting interviews from many as they exited.

Mark, I quess I do live in the backwoods (Mobile, AL), our tickets were $5.00 each, but 2 drinks and a popcorn was $10.00.

I heard a comment about the movie on the radio Friday...the guy was saying how a movie like this is great, that it can help renew your faith, etc etc...but that he wished they'd made it less violent, and that violence would keep him from going to see it....

I just don't get that concept. I doubt the movie even comes close to what Christ REALLY endured...Should we tone down the truth of what HE paid for us just so we're not offended, upset, or sickened?

I think maybe more of us ought to be sickened by what Christ did for us, and how we live our lives so far short of where we ought to be in light of what was done for us.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but plan to.

..I didn't see the movie..but I don't quite understand why his suffering was any greater than all the other people nailed to a cross and whipped and beaten..or people who endured other barbarous treatment for that matter...bound to a wall and stoned to death..or slowly crushed to death...skinned alive or burned..the media sure know how to pull our strings and open our wallets....right now there are millions of people slowly dying for want of basic medical treatment or nutrition...I'll bet many people moved to silence from the drama of the movie will ignore or view with disgust the homeless or ill around them and rationalize some crap like they should have "tried harder or planned better"..( my quotes)...where does the tear filled compassion go when we return to reality?..thats when it counts. Some one once said ..what you do to the least among you you do to me...I think it was that guy on the cross???

Dale,
It is not that His suffering, crucifixion, or being whipped and beaten, etc. etc. etc. was any greater than others. It is that His was different, in that it was for a purpose. He suffered and died for forgivness of sins! Yours, mine, and all who read this. He did this willingly...At any time He could have stopped it...But chose not to so that we may be forgiven and saved. That Man on the Cross loved (loves) us that much!

As to the poor, homeless, sick, hungry people of the world, it is our duty as believers to contribute to their relief as liberally as we possibily can with out causing material injury to ourselves.

Check out the movie...My family and I plan to real soon. I hear that it is very good!!

Best Wishes for a good cleaning season!!

Bob,
Thanks for the reply, I only wondered about the reason for the responses to the idea of how great the suffering was. I'm a firm believer that whatever inspires people to be more compassionate and helpful to others is good... whether real or not....though ideas, intentions, or buckets full of tearful beliefs are powerful tools in changing peoples actions...they are of little use if nothing changes. I agree with oneness..we shouldn't tone down the truth just to keep from offending, upsetting, or disgusting people..that only adds to the confusion.

Take care,
Dale

I saw the movie Saturday evening with a bunch of people from church. The showing we went to had been sold out for a week, so several of us showed up 30 minutes early to get a good seat. We were about 150th in a line (inside) that swelled to over 200 before they let us in to the theater to get a seat.

An 85 year old lady in our church that went had not been in a theater since her mother had taken her when she was a little girl.

Most people did not even get up to leave until the credits had run, including myself. It was powerful and I highly recommend it.
