Phil Ackland Issues

Several weeks ago, I was informed that Phil Ackland was presenting his menu of programs to IKECA. At that time I was excited over the prospects of a renewed association relationship with one of the original founders.

Then I learn from another person who stated that the program was rejected by the IKECA Board of Directors. I was surprised of this development to say the least.

Phil and some of the leading members of the board have for several years been on less than positive terms. All issues have two sides, however Phil has always been a gentleman and up front with any situation that directly involved me. So I gave Phil a call and this was the information and timeline that he shared with me. I asked him if I could share this with the members of PWI and PWN , and he agreed.

In 2002, I began developing a comprehensive Protocol for exhaust cleaners.

Many months, and thousands of dollars later, I finished Phil Ackland’s Kitchen Exhaust Cleaners Certification Protocol. http://www.philackland.com/certification.html

This Program was developed under the strict discipline of the International Organization of Standardization (ISO 9001). The ISO 9001 Quality Management System is recognized by many governments (AHJ’s). For more information see www.iso.org.

The Program is fully developed and ready to be delivered, now, today. It provides an affordable means to have both Companies and Crew Leaders certified as “Trained and Qualified.â€￾ And it does it in a way that is “acceptable to the authority having jurisdictionâ€￾ as per NFPA #96 11.4.

I willingly offered this Program and my cooperation to IKECA.

On Saturday July 12th 2003, the IKECA board met and decided rather than accept this Program, they were going to begin to make their own with Delco Cleaning Systems of Forth Worth.

This is an unfortunate decision. Now rather than having a partner, and working together to improve this service field, the IKECA board has chosen to make a competitor of this Program and of me.

I wish to inform all the members of IKECA that I regret being forced to compete with your group. It would have been great to work together.

Hello David,

I've been doing exhaust systems for about 18 years. Phil is the one that has made the real movement in bringing facts and information to all parties involved in this industry.

In my opinion any and all programs that are developed will be based on what Phil has developed over these many years. Phil is the authority in this area!

If I were Phil, I would set myself up to be the third party to provide the training/testing and certification. Kind of like the UL laboratories. To Hell with the rest of them!

I suppose if I say much more several folks that have used Phil’s efforts for their own profit motives will lambast me! Oh well!

Dave I agree with you! A third party organization run by the expert with no afiliation with the for profit groups including schools

Any idea how this would look-or how would you like it to be marketed?

I've been a little busy lately working on the deliver system for the training portion of the Protocol.

I understand what you are saying about an independant "thirid party" (I think).
But being that the requirement of NFPA 96 requires "Training" (which equals schooling of some form), How do I provide the Protocol, and fulfil the Training requirement without being involved in some school/training?

And this may come as a surprise to some, but I am neither a millionaire (or a golfer :). I have to generate some form of revenue. How would I do this - reasonably?

An independent certification program (Especially when it is offered by someone that has credible industry experience) to test the knowledge of people in the business has no bias to the type or style of learning would be the least suspect program.

Teaching the school and offering the certification is borderline and one would need to be careful so that it does not appear to be a way to just buy a certification.

Selling a supposed turn-key, positive cash flow guaranteed, marketing program, learn everything there is to know in two weeks, everything ready to go, lifetime income and certification just back up your station wagon and hook it up (Trailer hitch and yellow page add not included) seems to much like a scam.
