I currently use a pager for my business phone number and was told today that they are going to change it. Now not only will I have to change all my biz cards, flyers, ect but guess I need to start contacting anyone who has my old number that it changed. WHAT A PAIN IN THE @#%. I'm thinking of changing to a wireless phone instead but what are the chances of the same thing happening again? Sure am glad I held off on those signs for the trailer.

Thanks, I just needed to vent :burn:

Same thing happened to me with the cell phone. They changed the area code and my phone number was changed. I had it in the yellow pages, bus cards, truck, you name it and I had it listed there. Cost me a small fortune to get everything done over. I now list my house phone as my bus. phone and I have caller ID if I am home if not I have a answering machine with 4 lines so that it sais if you are calling the bus. press 1 if you want the wife press 2 and so on. I feel for ya because I have been there it sucks.

Like the idea of a multi line machine. I have a second line in my house thats used for a computer, is their any way my computer can answer the call and forward it to a pager or cell phone?

Thanks:cool:

Tom I dont know I am sure there is software out there that can do that I just use my wife to call me she is a homemaker we have three kids so she will call me on my cell phone and give me the number I have voice mail on the cell in case I dont answer right away. It works for me. You might look into a answering service they are on call 24 hrs a day and will page you if you get a call.

You all should just get business phone lines and be done with it! Yes, they cost more then residential lines, however, you do get a free yellow page ad with it.............

They charge more money for phone calls, but I make alot of my calls on my cell phone anyway (I get tons of minutes there). I do have a decent toll and long distance rate on my business lines............9 cents a minute in state, 7 cents out of state.

for some bigger co. or anyone for that matter might think about NEXTEL
phones they have a walkie talkie feature where you get your own # and it costs nothing extra to call phone to phone[must be nextel to nextel for this feature to work]
the first of 2003 this feature is going nation wide so i can use it to talk dicectly to anyone in the country with no extra charges no used min. they are handy on the job sites as well
one button no dialing i really like them.

Mike and Ron are both right. I have both and foward my calls to the Nextel after two rings. With the business line you can get ringmaster and have a different number for a fax on the same line. You can run your computer on the business line. I just changed my internet over to cable modem and like it much better and it is less money than dial up with an extra line. The business line and a Nextel are the way to go.

Call information and ask for your company, you might be upset at what you hear. Example-I live in the 916 area code and my company has a local commercial number that is located in Loomis with area code 916. I advertise in Pacific Bell with a bold listing in each directories. Now if I call 916 and ask for my company they will ask for the city. If I say Sacramento(916), nine times out of ten they will say no listing, because I am in Loomis. The person asking for information must know the city. I have went round and round and they have admitted that they have a problem. Loomis has a population of under 5000 and Sacramento near a million, they have forgot the service industry within the matrix.

Sometimes the information will pick up the small towns but it is rare. They told me I must buy a phone line with each city-even if I am listed in the yellow pages within the 916 area code

Tom, Ringmaster is a service offered from BellSouth. Call them and they can help. Is that who you have your phone service with? I have good service with BellSouth. I however use AT&T for long distance and toll free number. Give me a call if you have any questions.

Two questions for you guys.

1: Concerning answering or voice mail machines, has anyone heard of one that if your on the phone and call waiting beeps the machine will pick up and play your message so you don't have to stop talking to whomever your on the phone with?

If I am talking with a customer I will not ask him/her to please hold as I have a call coming in, I think it is rude and could cost an account.

2: I have Verizon for both our land lines and cell phones, like most Verison to Verison is free but not to others.

What makes one, namely Nextel so much better then the others?

Now I know there is a law that says you can keep your cell number if you change providers, yes there really is a law but NOT one company will accept your current number, they want to issue a new one. That is one big reason I have never changed. Other reason is I am not going to sign any more contracts for 2 years.

I also have to have a phone that I can feel viberate, not all are strong and that has a very long battery life, mine can go for over 3 days and that is with using it often too. Have not found any others to last more then a day and half.

Ok tell me all the good and bad with Nextel and all other companies.

Jon,

My nextel phone vibrates, now, if you could feel it or not, I have no idea.

Most of us are addicted to Nextel because of the two way radio function.............its very helpful at times. Not so helpful for a one man operation.

Everyone has or will have to deal with an area code change at some point in time, and it is costly. Is is possible to calculate the cost of lost business because client(s) cannot reach you and assume you are no longer in business ?

A toll free number is the solution.

The last time we needed new area codes here, they created overlapping area codes, so no one had to change their number.

However, we all have to dial ten digits for every phone call as a result of it. But, we're used to it now!

Bryan, I pay $89.00 per month plus taxes and insurance, runs about $114.00. This is or 800 outgoing minutes, unlimited minutes, unlimited two - way radio and free long distance. My 800 number goes to this phone and I always have enough time.
