I've got a shot at cleaning some pipe in preparation for painting. The customer says no soap because it leaves a film which may effect the paint. 225 degree water only is what he wants. I have heard of a soap that is used for car painting prep. I'm told that it bonds with the metal and gives a bite to the following paint. The pipe to be cleaned is as follows: 2-55' lengths of 64" pipe, 7-50' lengths of 24" pipe.
There are no floor drains in this factory and I will be vacuuming the water as I go. I'll do this job as time and material and will require an authorized signature attesting that the pipe is ready for paint (maybe the painter). Once this pipe is painted and in place a failure of the paint will create alot of finger pointing and I want to be clear of accusation. I also want to find out what paint they are going to use and maybe contact the manufacturer as to recommended prep.
What do you think?
