Power loss and unburned fuel

I have a 11 hp honda pressure washer, I experienced some power loss and a pitch change in the sound of the machine while operating. There is unburned fuel because a small flame is firing out the muffler periodically. Any suggestions??? Thanks, Scotty, [help]

That's exactly what my brother and myself thought. After taking off the OHV cover and check things out, valves seem ok. It appears to be a neglected spark arrester. A soaking in solvent and a good wire brushing seems to have done the trick. I guess when they say...every 100 hours, they mean it. Having bought the machine second hand and never having done it my self means I have no history of the spark arrester maintenance. Will keep an eye on this in the future.

I'd like to say thanks for the suggestions. It was as simple as cleaning the spark arrester and cleaning out the carb. Many thanks from a relative newbee. I appreciate the lack of mockery at my limited knowledge but I'm learnin', slowly but surely. Thanks in part to this site. Best wishes all.
