problem

I have run into some sort of stuff that was left over from the construction of a new bank.

It is on the concrete drivethough area which is where they went into the building from.

It looks like tar but is not, it is not oil and I have no clue as to what it is, any help would be welcome.

Degreaser does not even loosen this stuff up.

Also there is white residue which I am sure is from plaster yet it does not budge much either and that means with hot water and turbo also.

Any idea what these two things might be, have to have it all off before Monday morning.

It bugs me I cannot get it off.

<b><font color=green>Hmmm

Could you go more into detail as in:

Is the concrete smooth sweeped with open pores, finshed with sealer or smoothed with float.

Is the look like tar:

thick, thin, down in the pores or does it look like rubber from eqt. tires,,,,is it wide, narrow, flat, round, square.

The white stuff:

could it be splash from laying the bricks ,if bricks how many :D.

The only thing I know that looks like tar and is not is rubber.

Water will make putty out of plaster which is easy washed off,if your talking about plaster used on sheetrock.....Good morning :)</b></f>

Jon,
I know you dont want to hear this but if all else
fails soda blast. You should have companies in your
area that do graffiti try to work out a deal with them.
Or better yet if you did not sell your small system try it!

Good luck

It could be the mastic from the carpet. A degreaser won't touch it. BUT< a citrus based cleaner will. As for the white stuff, it could be a curing compound for the concrete. So you will just need to work with it to get it off.

It could be some sort of adhesive. I would try a spot with diesel or kerosine. The as the other fellow suggested try a citrus based cleaner (I think Mark has one) or dlimonene. I had a stain on vinyl a while back that diesel and kerosine would only loosen a bit but the dlimonene would dissolve it. Good luck.

Thanks guys,

I will try the diesel fuel this afternoon or early evening and see it that does not do the job.

Scott I think you hit it on the head, most likely is the mastic, I know it is not tile marks as been doing them long enough to know what they are like.

White stuff is not from concrete, it is like small patches, not plaster either.

Concrete is smooth in drive though area and that cleans with no problem.

Other concrete is open pores and that is where my headaches are.

Funny thing is I did this same job during the construction of the bank for the contractor and this stuff was not there at the time.

Building was not finished then so workers simply messed it all up.

Shawn, I still have my soda system so will give it a try also. I have all afternoon today and all day tomorrow to finish this job.

I will get it off, I do not let things cause me to fail. Not a quitter.
