Hello Mark,

On Sunday September 19, 2004 I will have been married (to my first wife) 42 years and 4 months to the day! I've been married to my business for about half that time! :)

Hard to imagine that anyone would consider anything other than a union between a man and woman marriage!

Thanks for posting the links.

46 years this month for us! I have learned the secret to a long and happy marrriage - be sure to marry a wife who looks young enough to be your daughter!

..and you'll never be able to explain the "threat" because there is none if the criteria that defines a threat is applied unbiasedly to both heteros and homos

I have found that certain issues are so polarized that debate is a waist of time. I have my beliefs and you have yours, let the votes be counted :)

Walt. I agree. The polarization is usually because an inability or lack of desire to actually address the issues as one states them. If a person is interested in facts "beliefs" just don't cut it. As long as ones beliefs only effect the believers lives thats all well and fine but when beliefs are used to harm others the hypocrisy should be pointed out if for no other reason to have someone clarify in their own minds the justification of their beliefs and in doing so strenghten them through a clear understanding of what they say they stand for.

Yes

You made my point perfectly, In fact I never was able to boil it down until this discussion, the distinction between “factsâ€￾ & beliefs.â€￾

My beliefs are based off of what I see as “factsâ€￾.
As so are yours, therefore we are at an impasse.

Walt, I'll respect your views.. but am really unclear about the trouble in finding a difference between fact and belief.?? am I understanding you correctly to be saying...if I were a Jihadist and said "America is evil"...you would say that is that a fact? To me thats a twisted belief.
The point I was trying to was somewhere there are "facts" that supercede the individual "beliefs" of people and I think its important to have the courage to try to find them.

Another way to look at it is trying to have a discussion on faith with a devote atheist.

What it boils down to is a person’s core belief. But hey it’s fun to take this to the absurd.

Well I have to go make a living. [hello]

Walt, your assumption is leaping to conclusions...which is a big part of how the how "belief" systems work...I'm Buddhist but thats beside the point.
To me the original topic of this thread was not "my way is better than your way" but let me see if I can legislate my way and force it on you. I can't help but wonder about the motivation...I mean if it doesn't effect you life why try to make someone else miserable? and if one believes so strongly that they have a duty to protect everyone else from some undefined danger or threat acting on that duty should be based in demonstratable fact and not "feelings"

Walt, its so easy to get off topic....when did this become a discussion on faith?? I thought we were discussing whether the proposed legislation was based in anything proveable.
I guess a more clear representation of what I was getting at would be to ask the question WHY you beleive what you believe?

Discussion seems to be digression in the extreme. Not sure either of you have any idea what it is you are 'discussing' - something about 'undefined dangers' and apple 'cores' or other - but I do see one is a Buddhist. Reminds me of a very brave man. He was Buddhist and was to undergo a root canal. He told the dentist to omit all novacain. It seems he wanted to transcend-dental-medication.
:) Richard

The original topic was "Protect Marriage Sunday"

Is the Homosexual / Liberal agenda is to change the definition of marriage?

Hmhhh who is trying to legislate and force their way upon who?

Traditionally marriage has always been defined as a union between one man and one woman.

Jesus declared that homosexuality is a sin....... we are instructed to hate the sin..but love the sinner.

Mark..good point. I do like to stay on topic. My original question was ..whats the threat?...I don't get it. I for one don't necessarily like the idea of a free ride . Why shouldn't gay people have the same responsibilties as straight people? pay your alimaony..split your property..cover your spouses bad debts..etc...But these things...like marriage is a LEGAL responsibility. Morality or ones belief that they are more moral than someone else needs definition in order to come to a conclusion that their way is in FACT more moral....It seems to me to mix the personal "moral" with the legal protections we should all be guaranteed. You accurately pointed out the orginal topic...my original question was ...whats the threat??...I don't get it.

As a post script.. Jesus himself never said anything one or the other about homos..leading some people to conclude that it was not a concern.
