Two men died Friday evening in separate accidents in Glenview, police said Saturday night.

About 4:50 p.m., police officers and paramedics responded to a report of an unresponsive man trapped beneath a vehicle at the Bredemann Ford dealership, 2038 Waukegan Rd.

Police discovered that Alvaro Hernandez, 45, a Bredemann employee, had become trapped while working on his personal vehicle in the dealership's parking lot. Co-workers raised the vehicle off Hernandez with floor jacks and paramedics tried to revive him, police said.

Hernandez, of the 5800 block of North Maplewood Avenue in Chicago, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead at 5:17 p.m., police said.

About 5:20 p.m., Glenview police and paramedics responded to another report of an unresponsive man in his home on the 4500 block of East Larch Avenue.

In the home's basement, officials found Andrzej Bieniewski, 47, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he had been cleaning a shower area in the basement with a gas-engine-powered washer. The Cook County medical examiner's office reported the cause of death was carbon monoxide inhalation.

Surely by now we've all heard about carbon monoxide poisoning. Is it just that some don't get it, or is it that some think it won't happen to them?

At first glance I thought that was just an ethnic slur. He probably wa a recent immigrant and you would be amazed at some of the standard procedues that they do in other countries that we consider hazardous or dangerous.

Ken, I too made that observation, but you beat me to the punch. Seriously, don't take offense if you're Polish. There's plenty of other ethnic idiots to go around. Also, we can't assume this was a contractor. Could have been a Homeowner that didn't know any better. In either case, a lesson we should learn. Certainly, I have run my gas equipment in factories, warehouses, where's there's a lot worse stuff floating around than Carbon Mon. There's also plenty of fresh air to dilute it. We did a sauna inside a gym once, and that was my first experience with electric washers. Worked fine.

Safety First.....Safety Lasts!

I wasn't singling out contractors only. I was speaking of adults who should know better whether it's a common practice in another country or not. It's just a general stupidity.
