I came across PWNA's website and I was wondering how many people were certified and went to their training siminars. I was thinking about going to their fall tech siminar in Orlando.... maybe :)

*Note: I did do a search and I can tell that it looks like people dont believe the membership is worth it. I just want to know how helpful their seminars are... and are there any others? Thanks!

The best way to get training is to go work for somebody else for a week. See if another company out of your state will allow you to work a week for them for free. Cheaper and more productive than an overpriced seminar.

The PWNA membership works for me but it doesn't work for everyone..This had been discussed at length here in the past..just do a search.

As for the Seminars once again for me they are worth it. I am PWNA wood certified and I market this in my website. I also learned a few things in that seminar that I didn't know even after being in this business for around 9 yrs at that point.

Anyway to add knowledge for you is a boost and what you do with that is what makes your business fly....Good Luck.

PWNA Wood Class = $800.00 plus your room and travel......PWNA Wood Manual ordered from any one of the vendors that sells it $79.99 plus shipping, No hotel and no lost days of work plus you can read it at your leisure. Sounds like a simple solution to me. This industry is not magic, although some make it seem that way, and a little information goes a long way.

John,

You're on the BOD so would know the answer to this - this entrepenureal young man is merely 16 years of age - Does the PWNA have any age limitations? As I feel certain the PWNA complies with OSHA regulations in how courses are run, would that pose any issues with his becoming certified?

Celeste-
Great Question that I don't know the answer to. I don't deal with the certification end of the PWNA that much. I'll get an answer to this and try to remember to post it here once I get it.

If your in New Jersey I believe Everett has some classes there. A lot of training needs to be hands on. I can read a manual about how to fix my car, but until I really dive in I have no clue what to expect. I am Environmentally Certified through the PWNA and the certification has paid me back twenty fold, I think it gives the customer a sense that you are more legitimate.

I haven't looked lately but you used to get wood certified free off the internet and think you used to get it free at all S.W. paint stores.

Once again I have to say this is a great question that I never heard or read anyone asking in the past. First off If this said person has a license and is insured for his business no matter what his age is(Teenager on up) then the PWNA would most likely be able to certify him.

I emailed this question to the other PWNA BOD's and its seems to fall into that grey area where there is no definitive answer. For Example what if someone has a business and there 15 yr old son works with them and now they want there son to get PWNA Certified. On this example since the Dad has a business and there at the very least insured then I would think that there son could be certified. I guess what its coming down to if the 16 yr old here in this question has a business that he can prove is registered and he has insurance then he should be allowed to get certified.

I'll see if I can get someone with alot more knowledge about this to put there views on this here.
