Roof cleaning

I have resisted cleaning roofs for safety and liability concerns. I also am not sure how to get to the ones with steep pitches that are very high.

What is a pitch witch? How do I go about reaching these hard to get to roof stains?

I am also looking for the right chemical. I have read in many places that bleach is harmful to the shingles.
