Ok, yet another question. When people talk about chemical dilution, for example 50/50 bleach and water, is that the dilution in the chem tank before downstream, x-jet, etc. application to the property or is that the concentration going straight on the building with a sureflow, pump-up, etc? The 50/50 on a roof is just an expample.

I'll get there one of these days. [white]

IF it is mixed 50-50 and then you downstream it or X it then it is no longer 50-50

In order to find the mix for your 50-50 you must first find out what your X or Downstream is doing then mix to that.

For the most part as cheap as bleach is ( which I never use nor do I suggest anybody use on a roof ) you can pour 2 gal of bleach into 5 gal fill it up the rest of the way with h20 then X or Down it. Of course it also depends on how dirty the material is you plan to clean..............

30% pool chlorine to 70% water is a good starting place for asphalt shingle roofs. That's applied directly to the roof. For downstreaming or Xjetting, you'll have to adjust the mix accordingly. Not sure why Dan doesn't like chlorine/bleach on roofs, since that's the cleaning method suggested by most shingle manufacturers and the leading roofing materials trade group (ARMA). It is the most efficient, effective, and economical way to clean a shingle roof. Provided you take precautions for plants or anything else the chlorine might damage, there's no reason at all not to use chlorine on roofs.

Gotcha. I misunderstood your post to be a criticism of bleach/chlorine as a roof cleaner ("nor do I suggest anybody use on a roof").

What chem are you using?

SHHHHHHHHHHH !! It's not a "secret" YOu just didnt name it.

And for the record>> If `ya dont like this board Then why do you post here?

What the manufactures dont tell you is the long term damage chlorine/bleach does to asphalt shingels................ They either dont really know or they dont really care......... If I sold shingles I would suggest chlorine/bleach as well. It has been proven that using those products that it shortens the LIFE of asphalt.

Chlorine is for my hot - tub......... and Im about to jump in all that HEAT!!

Bleach is for my wife to wash my whitie tighties:)

Oh and BTW if `ya wanna spend 10grand you too can become a dealer........... I probably would not do it again.......... I mean I got my $$$$ back out but it took 2 years........... It would of taken less If I would of advertised but >>>>>> I HATE TO WORK:):):)

Mixing Chems

I Always Mix My Solutions In My Tank And Pump Directly On The Roof. I Use A Mixing Method That Works Really Well. By Mixing It In The Tank Prior To Application You Know Exactly What You Are Putting On The Roof. Mike Said 30%, That Is A Good Number To Start With, Just Mix It Up Good With Some Soap First. Always Wet Down Plants Before And After, Those "miricale Cleaners" Even Say That. They Also Suggest Eye Protection And Gloves?

This statement is directed to: Dan S

[This will probably be deleted, but I'll post my thoughts anyways. Maybe you should try helping folks that come to this bbs instead of trying to be king of power wash universe. I mean seriously, out of all the forums I frequent you take the cake for pompous. Every post I've read from you either puts someone down or toots your own horn. Get over yourself already.

What most manufactures tell you is that long term damage from the use of chlorine/bleach is very minimal to asphalt shingels................ In fact, the ARMA actually sugests chlorine as the approved method for cleaning such shingles, and if used correctly, the life span of a roof will not be affected in any way.

What part of this is not helping somebody else out?

Agreed, but that's par for the course for most regulars here (those who have been here a long time, and a few who haven't).

That's why out of all the boards out there, this board has the least activity, and of the activity there IS, the least helpful and interesting activity...even less than PWI, which seemed to have died a while back...

lets hear it man..........

where am I putting somebody down?
And where am I "tooting my own horn"?

Where ? What ? post am I trying to be the "king"

show me where you are talking about >>>> Point them all out

Or are you just rambling on and on B/C I didnt name my chemical?

Just b/c you are a member of the BB and in the p/wing business dosnt mean you have to tell the world how-what and the best way you do business. If we (I) tell you everything about how I do business what stops the folks from around my area doing the same thing. Listen Im in business to make money and support my family, I think I help out enough with "how too's" . The rest is up to you guys to do it for yourself. If you consider that "tooting my horn" Then it's you that has the problem. And I will tell you the same thing...........If you dont like it >>> DONT POST HERE.

I have one question. What shortens the life of a roof more, chlorine, or bio-oranisums? I'm not making a smart remark, just an honest question.

Chlorine is the cleaning agent suggested by many roofing manufacturers and the primary roofing trade group. Application and rinsing of chlorine once every few years isn't going to affect the life of the roof at all. Leaving algae (bio-organisms) up there to loosen granules and degrade the shingles will cause the life of the roof to be shortened significantly.

The chlorine is on the roof no more than an hour, certainly not long enough to cause the shingles to become dry or brittle as some mis-informed people suggest....Shingles are waterproof, that's why they use them on roofs. The chlorine isn't soaking into them, it's sitting on the surface of the shingle and killing the algae.

PWI didn't die, it's actually quite active. More so than here.

I didn't start posting here because any board died...I began posting here shortly after I found PWI. If I were looking for a replacement for PWI, it wouldn't be here.
