Does anyone know how to get"shotgun mold" off of vinyl? Its tiny black dots that are really hard. On white vinyl they really show up. We have tried everything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Dan for this board.

Sometimes it seems that no matter what you do, you can't get them off. Usually, the sooner you get to them the better. If they have been on there a long time, they will be nearly impossible to remove.

I never go out of my way to remove shotgun fungus......I try, but I don'd kill myself over it. I explain to the customer when I do the estimate that some comes off, and some doesnt. To date, no one has given me a hard time about it.....they all seem to just accept it.

thanks for the help so far. This stuff isnt regular mold. I can get that off. I was told by on of my customers that this stuff was called shotgun mold. Bleach, Vinyl cleaners or ant thing else works. the mold looks like this............ its about that size even 4000psi wont take it off. thanks again for the help.

It's artillary fungus

ITS NASTY! The extensive seaching I've done regarding this scourge yielded the following: You can't get it off with chems or pressure, hot water might help, and the only way to remove any spores over 2 days old is by chipping/scrubbing them off.
I believe MIT has done an extensive study on the stuff (they've calculated the HP fungus produces, it can shoot 20 feet straight up, it remains viable after passing though a critters digestive tract, and aims its spores at sunlight) and determined that it comes from mulch.
I carry some printed out info on this fungus to show to customers.
If you search the term "artillary fungus" you'll get all the info you don't want to know.

I've had a few hits on my artillery fungus page from VA the past couple of days, was it you by any chance?

Give me a call sometime, I'm in Maryland.

Removing artillery mold from cars

[wsmile] I think I have a solution for easy removal of artillery mold on cars. First, use a plastic credit card to slice off the black mold. A white spot remains that can be removed with clear cold water and a face cloth. All very fast and a power wash is nice but not necessary.
