I am getting ready to buy a shur-flo pump. What psi and how many gpm do you recommend? I would like to attach 100 ft. of hose to the pump. Thanks1

It depends on what you are going to use it for.I have a 6o psi 1.4 gpm and I have a 50 foot hose and it works great.I use it for sealing so I didn't want to many gpm's.I also use it to apply stripper. If you are using it to apply cleaner 3 gpm 100psi would probably work with 100 feet of hose.I have mine attached to a cart with a deep cycle battery. It takes 15 minutes to charge and runs all day(I mean ALL DAY!) I use a bunch of attachments I made with quick connects. The hose I use is a small 3/8 garden hose on an enclosed reel,I bought at lowes ,it is perfect .

JR,
When your sealing a deck and your using your shurflo setup do you find that when your spraying the pressure decreases alot then it builds back up and then decreases alot again?

I bought a set up from xxxxxxxxxx where the shurflo pump and battery are on a handtruck with a 25 gallon tank. I like this set up but the part I don't like is that the sprayer's pressure decreases to much when in use before it builds back up again. Is there a way to adjust the pressure where it can stay more consistent with the 60 psi its supposed to stay at?

Mark,

I use a shur-flo 60 psi, 1.4 gpm for spraying down degreaser, works great and have good control over it, never oversprays.

Ask Mark and Wiz, I am sure they can offer help too.

Here is the link to Shur-flo's web site. http://www.shurflo.com/

There is a little variation during cycling but not enough to cause the sealer to be uneven.I use a pump up sprayer wand which limits the amount of sealer and sprays in an even pattern.

JR,

Ever have any problems with the Shur-flo losing pressure? I have the 1.4 gpm 60 psi also and one of them started losing pressure. I just figured It was due for a overhaul, so I bought a new diagphram and cleaned it out real well. Now I can't get the damn thing to run at all.

Rvagnoni,
I have bought 3 Flo-jet diaphram pumps in the last month. I sent the first back because it would't prime after the first couple uses. Then I had the same problem with the 2nd one and was going to send it back when I found that if the bolts are too tight in the head it woun't perform right. Maybe you tightened you bolts too tight after the rebuild.

Clean County,
The pressure surging is the pump cutting on and off when it reaches a certain pressure. This is regulated by the on-demand pressure switch on front of the pump. If you open the nozzle wider to increase flow you can stop the cycling.

Glenn,

I actually thought about that already so I eased off on the head mounts but still nothing. Thanks anyways for the help!

Rick,
I have never had a problem with my pump at all, which is strange because of all the stories I have heard about how tempermental they are.I guess I got a good one.I have gone three days with sealer or stripper in it without cleaning it out and it fires right up.I will retire it at the end of the year and keep it for a spare though.

If the surging is causing problems go to a standard on/off flow jet. They do not surge at all due to pump never shutting off (until you hit the switch). We have 3 of them and they work well. Every so often we do have to prime them bet we installed a "t" with a coupler off the inlet side to force water through. This helps to flush the pump easily as well.

John, There is a phillips head screw on the pump head. You can adjust this screw to regulate the flow . Counter clockwise will allow the pump to run longer before the cycle stops. If that doesn't work give me a call at 1-800-357-6295.
