Soap in float tank

Ok, I've searched the threads, and didn't find a satisfactory answer.
There is probably a simple solution to a common problem, but here goes.
I have 3500@5.5gpm, and I'm getting soap backed up into my float tank.
What causes this, and how can I fix it? Does it have something to do with using an adjustable wand? Or do I need a check valve installed after the filter screen?
I asked Mark this question the other day, and I'm sure he answered it, but I've got tons of stuff going on, and I don't remember a thing he said. (Sorry, Mark!)
If I get the answer in writing, at least I can look at it again after I forget.
Thanks for the help, guys!

Randy,
Does your by-pass dump back to your tank? Are you using the up streamer?
If you answer "yes" to both that is what causing the problem. The up streamer will draw chems into your bypass line when you release the trigger.
I'm guessing you had a foaming tank.....Kind of like a pit bull eating alka seltzer.

Exactly! I didn't know exactly how to put it, but you've nailed it!
I've got the downstreamer, I just have to get the pickup hose and the lil filter thingy for the end of it. Thought it was 1/4 in. turns out, it's 5/16.
tomorrow it's supposed to rain. Time for some maintenance. At least I know nothing's broken.
Thank you, Scott.

A downstreamer will not cause this, an UPstreamer will. An upstreamer adds chemicals to the water BEFORE it enters the pump. This is where the bypass line becomes involved. The bypass line from the unloader is recycling unused water(when the trigger is not pushed) back to your tank. This water has chems in it. A downstreamer will put water in the line after the pump which won't affect anything.
