Soda Blasting?

Hi all, been a long time between posts, flat out cleaning! My main source of income down here is acid washing (muratic) brickwork on new houses, and business has been good.... until now! One of my main builders has been approached by a bi-carb soda blasting company who claim they can do exactly the same job as me, without any possibilty of staining or pressure damage to mortar joints (not that we get any damage, but you do see the unforeseen stain, eg efflorescence). Does any one have any knowledge on soda blasting and what are the problems that may be associated with it? I need some ammunition to go into this builder to nutralise the idea that this crew can do the same as mine. Any help appreciated. Brett

Its my understanding that soda blasting costs more to do vs. washing.......beyond that I don't know much about it.

Hey Mark...any thoughts on this? Anyone???

As I understand it, the big downside to soda blasting is soda left on the surface. Anything left on the surface will interfere with any future paint/sealer applications. There are also runoff issues after the fact, since most of em rinse with a garden hose.

They're base blasting, are they neutralizing? (assuming you do)

There's always the argument that Mr Contractor shouldn't fix what ain't broke...Rely on your experiences and relationship with him.

Soda blasting is something all masonry washers are going to have to deal with. It has a pretty solid eco base to stand on, and although the equipment isn't cheap, the process is cheap and fast.

Good Luck!
