I am new at the power washing business. I have a disaster on my hands, at least I think so. I have a Whitco 4 2000-H model with a triplex plunger General pump. The engine starts and runs fine, and the unloader valve seems to be functioning as it should. The pump is pumping out water and there is no evidence of an oil leak, but when I pull the trigger it does not "bog" down and really pump hard as it used to. There is virtually no pressure, I am completely stumped and would like some kind of direction before I go into a shop and get over-charged for not knowing my stuff. Someone please help!!!!

It still could be your unloader....undo the unloader from the pump and plumb your psi hose to the output of the pump.In doing this tape the trigger in open mode or hold the trigger open but do not let off of the trigger while trying this test.Start the engine while still holding the trigger in wash mode,if it has alot of psi stop the engine and replace the unloader. If it does not have alot of psi more then likely its the packing in the pump that needs replaced or a air leak in the supply line or trash in the screen on the float tank, belt slipping ect. ect.

I had the same problem on my pump a comet. I took it to my repair shop and they diagnosed it as the springs . I dont remember the name but take the large nuts off on the pump body there are springs encased in a plastic retainer .If they are broke just replace them I have had to do this twice in about 3 years on this pump.

What m&c is talking about are the check valves. If they're the same as the nuts on my pump, I believe they're 27mm....but whatever you do, make sure you use the correct size socket. These nuts will strip out very easily. Sometimes something as small as a little grain of sand can get stuck in the valve. If one of them gets hung up it will have hardly any pressure. All you really need is a small pick to clear the debris. If you're machine has been sitting up a while, some of the valves might have stuck so check to make sure each valve will still move up and down.
