Sprayers

I was wondering what is the differance between Diaphram or Piston sprayers?

I will be staining wooden decks and fences and was wondering what the best type of sprayer to purchase is? (what kind of horsepower do i need?, What size tip? PSI?)

Also where might be the best place to purchase my sprayer? (online or at a place like homedepot?)

Thanks in advance for the help, it is greatly appreciated!

Personally, like the backpack sprayer that HD sells - around $70. If you keep them clean, they will last at least 1 year. I use a 6" foam roller and a 2 inch inexpensive brush for detail and up-close work. as well as "working in" the stain.

TIP: Pour a small amount of stain (assuming 1 gal cans) into a bucket for touching-up and rolling. By doing this, you will prevent pouring stain all over the sprayer - which is what will happen if pouring from a full can!

Here is what my research indicates about piston VS diaphragm sprayers:

"What are the advantages to a diaphram airless sprayer ...? Simple design, less moving parts; means fewer things able to go wrong with it. (as long as you wash it up good) And you tend to get more power for you money with a diaphragm since they are lower cost to manufacture due to the simpler design."
