Start-up PWing in Hawaii

A friend of mine and myself are starting up a new PWin business in hawaii. We are both in the Marine Corps stationed out here and have plenty of time left. I think its a perfect situation, most PWing companies out here are big contract type and we are targetting the individual home owners atleast to start since no one else is. Theres only a handful of registered companies on the Island. Also not having to shut down during the winter is a plus.

Right now we are just getting the whole ball rolling, we are now a registered business, have a federal tax ID and what not, next step is setting up a bank account and then possibly insurance.

We are going to start with electric pumps to start since we are trying to keep start up costs minumal.

Just looking for any advice or anything I havent thought of yet, and yes i have searched the start up stuff in the forum.

Thanks!

Do not skip the "possibly insurance" part, that is a must and not even a question of whether or not you should get it. I would look for a pressure washer with an engine and belt drive rather than an electric unit. You may limit the work you will be able to do if there is no electricity available, oh and that whole mixing electricity and water thing.

The more and more i read we will probably end up getting insurance. I have used electric units before and the water and electricity thing isnt really an issue. The thing is that we dont have much money to invest to go big right away. We want to start with the electric for probably around 10 jobs then shake off our training wheels and use the money to buy a gasoline powered pump.

Thanks for your input!

Hoodyhudak,

Good luck with your new venture, when you
say electric pressure washer I am thinking you mean 115 volt
which will limit you to 2-3 gpm, the more volume (GPM) you can
have the faster you can clean.

BTW - stationed in Hawaii man what luck! :)

If you do not get insurance and enough to cover the work you plan to do, one lawsuit and you will be out of business and in alot of debt. Keep us advised on how things go for you in Hawaii. Hugh

Yeah when i saw my orders to Hawaii i was really upset. :) Ive been in hawaii for 2 years so far but only really been here for 10 months.... They like to send me to Iraq for some reason, power washing business out there would be awesome! There is so much sand and dirt its a goldmine. Wait wait, dont steal my idea, patent pending!

Hows this for a slogan,
Operations Iraqi Power Washing
-Big Mess? Dont "Desert" it! Give us a call!
Now for a limited time offer, free IED with every job!

Thanks Guys for the help.
My partner and i have been talking and where going to go drop 400 at home depot for a gas powered one.

Tomorrow is the bank set up, and they offer insurance at Navy Federal so we will see what they have to offer.

I would love to order our equipment from the sponsors here, but shipping would kill us!

Thanks again hard chargers.

hmm, I could come to Hawaii and help you set up for a small consulting fee.

You might want to go a little larger than the $400 home depot model. I would look more at the $900 machine. That is still cheap, and it will last you a lot longer. Also triple check all of your environmental laws for all teh information.
